Hey, I'm Jörg van der Vegte. Creative Director and Art Director from a tiny town on the German-Dutch border, next to a river called the Vechte. Which, yes, probably explains the Dutch twist to my last name.
After my graphic design apprenticeship, curiosity carried me across the water. So I wrote a bank a love letter, talked them into a loan, and enrolled at a design university in Hamburg. One semester, then internships, I told myself. Naive, yes. Somehow it worked.
In 2015 I joined Jung von Matt as an intern. The agency names its offices after rivers, which felt like a sign. Over the years I created an reversible jacket for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, move an automotive brand into luxury territory from the ground up, and put Europe's largest online fashion retailer on the football culture map. Somewhere in all of that, I grew into Creative Director and few awards came with all of that, which I'm genuinely grateful for.
Oh, and I never finished the degree. The jobs turned out to be better teachers.
The full history of that river in my name, is still under investigation.
